The nice thing about Android is that manufacturers can customize the platform with their own software skin or overlay. In addition to changing the look and feel of the platform, these skins often introduce a lot of new features that aren’t in the standard or pure version of Android.

Android skins have come a long way since the early 2000s and early 2010s when manufacturers made bloated, ugly overlays for their phones. Those skins often had a big performance hit back then, too, and it wasn’t uncommon to find overlays that were poor imitations of iOS.
Fast forward to 2021 and we would argue that there aren’t any really bad Android skins other than second-rate brands with niche appeal. So what’s your favorite version of Android? Tell us your thoughts above.
