Poll results: Most are using smarpthone photo editing

For the past five years, the photo and video capabilities of smartphones have been the focus of every new device. That was great for consumers as cameras kept getting better on phones. However, are they good enough that you don’t have to do smartphone photo editing?

That’s exactly what we wanted to find out with one of our recent polls here and later Twitter. The final results are listed below, but we’re going to spoil it for you in advance: not very many of you share raw, unedited images.

Survey results for photo editing on smartphones

According to the two survey data sets, almost 3/4 of our readers carry out some form of smartphone photo editing at least temporarily. Only 25.11% of readers avoid rework.

Interestingly, only about 11.51% of our readers do what they would consider to be intensive editing of their photos. This is quite subjective, so we wouldn’t be surprised if one person views “heavy” as another person sees “easy”. Regardless, just over 34% of our readers say almost every photo they take is either difficult or easy to edit.

Most of our results consist of users in the middle who only do partial photo edits for smartphones. Honestly, we thought this segment was bigger, but hey, these polls are always full of surprises.

As usual, the poll results only tell part of the story. Below are a few selected comments and tweets associated with the smartphone’s photo editing surveys. These should help to clarify how at least some of the respondents approach their pictures.

Yes. I shoot in RAW with an LG and work on making the colors realistic, rather than the automatic oversaturation that most phone cameras provide. Fortunately, LG also allows me to control the color balance and saturation of the screen myself, so I can also adjust them for a realistic appearance.

For social media, I am trying to edit if the phone is not made by Samsung. Because no matter how you say others are true to life, but among the millions of photos on social media, yours will look more boring compared to others if they are true to life and not sharp enough. Check out the reviews from these high profile photographers. Almost none of these great photos have true-to-life colors.

Always. So I don’t care how boring or powerful the car camera makes the pictures, because I don’t use this mode. I take photos manually and do all the colors etc. myself.
