There is a good chance your country of residence offers a range of smartphones from numerous companies. However, it is likely that not all brands will be represented. Perhaps that brand has not yet launched there or has left the region entirely. Even if they sell products, it is possible that not all configurations or colors are offered.
It’s an inevitable problem, but one that can be solved relatively easily if you think about importing your smartphones.
While import regulations vary from country to country, this is a valid way to obtain a product that is not available in your region. Also, fans of a specific brand can get the latest device that may only be available in a specific region. If you really want the Collector’s Edition transparent gaming phone or the limited edition 18GB RAM model, this may be a way to get your hands on it.
But is it worth it? Regional tariffs and trade disputes usually make importing a device more expensive than buying the closest locally available equivalent. Some countries use high premiums on imports to encourage local purchases. Importing a device from a company with no local representation can also be a warranty nightmare. This is important because, in some cases, imports can take months to reach you.
With this in mind, we would like to get to know your thoughts and experiences. Have you ever imported a phone? What device or brand was it from? If so, would you do it again? Make sure to vote on our poll above and drop your anecdotes below.
