It seems like we’ve only recently seen AI camera modes on phones, with the 2017 Huawei Mate 10 Pro being part of the first wave of devices with this option. Fast forward to 2021 and you can still find AI modes on phones of different brands (called AI, Scene Optimizer, AI Cam, and more).

The AI mode of a phone camera usually uses object and scene detection to adjust various parameters. For example, AI mode can increase saturation when you point your camera at food or shoot in HDR when you point the camera at a sunset.
Some AI modes also issue situation-dependent prompts, e.g.
