Poll: Do you ever use your phone’s battery saver mode?

Many phones have some sort of battery life that extends the mode for a few more hours of use. You will often have to forego creature comforts in the process, but adjustment can be critical on long days when plugging in is inconvenient. This is true even during a pandemic – a battery saver mode can be the key to staying connected over a weekend camping trip for example.

However, how often you use this battery saver mode can vary widely. You can use it all the time when you’re determined to conserve power or avoid squeezing the last ounce of power out of your device. And then there are all in between – you can use it in a pinch or a couple of times a week. What is your preference

There are arguments in favor of using battery saver often, even if there is a risk of draining your phone. If you don’t multitask and don’t need constant notifications, why should you keep your phone running at full blast? Not only can this save you from being plugged in frequently, but it can also extend the life of your phone by reducing the number of charging cycles.

However, we won’t fault you if you are reluctant to use such modes. A battery saver mode doesn’t make much sense if you’re rarely far from a charger. It might also feel like you are changing yourself. What’s the point of a fast phone if you intentionally obstruct the device? Frequent top-ups may be worth the price if you want an uncompromising experience.

And let’s not forget that battery saver mode feels increasingly unnecessary. If even a mid-size phone like Google’s Pixel 5 can charge for two days, then you might not have to worry about its longevity. If you are not taking advantage of your phone’s battery saving options, it could be a triumph of modern technology.
