Poco M2 brings big battery, large screen, and quad cameras for $150

  • The Poco M2 is now officially in India and is essentially a renamed Redmi 9.
  • The phone has a 6.53-inch screen, 5,000 mAh battery, and a quad rear camera array.
  • The device will go on sale on September 15th on Flipkart.

Shortly after the launch of the Poco X3, the Xiaomi sub-brand has now announced its latest affordable offering in the form of the Poco M2. And it looks like a newly bathed Xiaomi Redmi 9.

The budget smartphone likely won’t make the cover of style magazines, but it isn’t Poco’s most unattractive device. It features a water droplet notch on the front and a vertical, center-mounted camera arrangement on the rear.

The front of the Poco M2 fits on a 6.53-inch display with a resolution of 2,340 x 1,080. These pixels are moved by a MediaTek Helio G80 chipset with 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB or 128 GB of internal storage. There’s also a microSD card slot for data hunters and two 4G SIM support for plan jugglers.

For photography, the Poco M2 uses four cameras on the back, namely a 13MP main camera with a f / 2.2 aperture, an 8MP wide-angle camera, a 5MP macro camera and a 2MP depth sensor. There is also an 8MP selfie camera mounted in the notch mentioned above.

Finally, some old conveniences make the cut too, including a headphone jack and a capacitive fingerprint sensor on the back. Modern conveniences listed include Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5 support, 18W charging, and a 5,000 mAh battery. All in all, pretty much the same as the earlier Xiaomi version.

The Poco M2 will go on sale on Flipkart starting September 15 at 12:00 PM IST (2:30 PM ET). The 64GB storage option starts at Rs. 10,999 (~ $ 149) while the 128GB is arguably the better option for Rs. 12,499 (~ $ 170 USD).

Poco offers two candy-coated color options, namely Brick Red and Slate Blue, but also a more serious Pitch Black gloss.
