  • Plex announced the Plex Arcade subscription game service.
  • You can stream retro games from one host platform to other devices.
  • You can stream your own collection or a variety of Atari games.

Plex is one of the most popular options for users looking to stream their media library to a wide variety of devices. Currently, the service supports your videos, music, and podcasts, but it also offers live TV and a variety of free content.

Now Plex has announced an entry into the game subscription arena with its Plex Arcade service. The company has partnered with streaming app provider Parsec to enable users to stream retro titles from a Windows or Mac host computer to a variety of platforms. These supported platforms include Amazon Fire TV, Android, Android TV, Apple TV, iOS, MacOS, Chrome / Chromium browsers, and Windows.

For the actual games, Plex has teamed up with Atari to offer 27 titles at launch. You can check out the full list below.

Fortunately, Plex Arcade also lets you stream your own collection of retro games from your computer’s library. It currently shows metadata for Arcade, Atari, Sega (Genesis, Game Gear, Master System, 32X) and Nintendo platforms (GB / GBC / GBA, NES, SNES, N64). Thankfully, Plex has confirmed that it is working on supporting more platforms.

Plex Arcade is available for $ 4.99 per month or $ 2.99 per month if you’re already a Plex Pass subscriber. It certainly sounds like an interesting proposition, especially for TV streaming devices where ROM space can be an issue.

However, today’s phones offer a lot of processing power and storage space, while the supported ROMs are tiny file sizes compared to disc-based titles anyway. Additionally, we’ve already seen local streaming services for both modern and retro titles. However, you can try Plex Arcade using the button below. A seven-day trial version is also offered.
