- Sony released a new PlayStation app for phones just before the PS5 launch.
- The new versions offer voice chat, a native store and a remote control for your PS5.
- It is now available for Android and iOS.
PlayStation 5 is just around the corner and Sony wants to make sure that your phone is a good companion for your new game console. A revamped PlayStation app for Android and iOS has just been released that is not only optimized for the PS5, but also has some overdue features no matter what system you own.
The redesigned PlayStation app offers a range of PS5 features, including options to remotely launch games, manage storage (helpful given the limited capacity), and log in to your system. You can buy and download games straight to your PS5 just like you could with the PS4.
The biggest innovations concern communication. You can create party groups and voice chat with 15 other people through your phone – no need to wait to be at your TV to meet friends. PS Messages is also built into the PlayStation app so you don’t have to multitask to keep up with a text conversation.

Sony also incorporated a truly native PlayStation Store in place of the old web view, so it should be a lot easier to buy apps and download them remotely to your PS5. An updated overall interface gives you a quicker look at what friends are playing, as well as your own recently played games.
This isn’t as polished in some ways as the beta version of the Xbox app for Android, which includes streaming games (this requires a separate Remote Play app on PlayStation) along with some familiar features. Still, the PS5 debut is a huge step forward for the PlayStation app. It is now a top notch citizen who does a lot of outside of the games himself.
