Philips Hue’s new Play gradient lightstrip promises a big upgrade for home entertainment spaces – TechCrunch

Smart lighting company Philips Hue has a new product in its home entertainment catalog that aims to make smart TV lighting much easier and more powerful. The new Play Philips Hue gradient light strips has individually addressable full color LEDs so each LED can be set to a different color independently for a more immersive color matching experience when used in conjunction with the Philips Hue Play HDMI sync box or sync software for PC or Mac .

The new gradient light strip is made to measure in three different size settings for 55-inch ($ 199.99), 65-inch ($ 219.99), and 75-inch ($ 239.99) TVs. The company created them in these settings for easy assembly and installation. However, you can also use them with larger or smaller sets with just a few adjustments. They are available for pre-order now and will ship October 16th in the US

The Hue Sync mobile app allows users to adjust the position and height of gradient lights (and other compatible Hue products) in their entertainment area. The lights’ colors and brightness are adjusted to match the items displayed on the screen. Earlier versions of Hue’s Lightstrip products could only completely switch from one color to another, which means they weren’t nearly as suitable for certain areas of the screen. The gradient light strip seems to be able to create a much more natural and immersive color-matching experience.
