Peacock will finally be available on Roku devices and smart TVs soon
- The recently launched streaming service Peacock will finally be available on Roku-based devices shortly.

In July, NBCUniversal launched its long-awaited streaming service Peacock on a national scale. However, the service didn’t support the popular line of Roku streaming sticks, set-top boxes, and smart TVs at launch. Late today, NBCUniversal and Roku announced that a deal has now been closed. It will enable Peacock on Roku devices in the near future.

Engadget received statements from both companies about the new deal. Though details of the deal were not disclosed, Roku’s statement said the deal will also add NBC content to the company’s internal Roku channel. It will also include a “meaningful advertising-related partnership” with NBCUniversal. This likely means that Roku will be getting some advertising revenue from Peacock’s service. NBCUniversal recently announced that it has signed up 15 million active users for Peacock since it launched in July.

The trip to sign a contract was probably more important to Peacock than it was to Roku. Barrons It was recently reported that, according to a survey of US smart TV consumers, 43% of them had a Roku-based device. The same survey found that 35% had an Amazon Fire TV device and 25% had an Apple TV box. Some users may have more than one streaming TV platform product.
There is still no word on when Peacock on Roku will launch. Hopefully it will take time for the service to become the exclusive streaming home for the US version of The Office. It will do so from January 2021 after the popular sitcom Netflix left in December 2020.
There is still no agreement with Amazon to bring Peacock to its popular Fire TVs and Smart TVs. There’s also no update on talks to add another major new streaming service, HBO Max, to Roku or Amazon Fire TV products.
