Worldwide PC shipments have increased again after supply chain disruptions caused by the spread of the EU Corona virus across the globe. According to an analysis published by Garter on Thursday, PC shipments reached 64.8 million units in the second quarter of 2020. Sellers were able to replenish their PC supplies, while demand for laptops also increased in the quarter Because of COVID-19, more people worked or studied from home.
“The PC supply chain was severely disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic in early 2020,” said Gartner Research Director Mikako Kitagawa. “However, this surge in demand for mobile PCs will not continue beyond 2020, as deliveries were primarily fueled by short-term business requirements due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Lenovo and HP According to Gartner, most PCs were shipped with over 16 million each. Dell followed by 10 million and Apple, Acer and Asus about 4 million each. Chromebooks and iPads were not included in the data.
The International Data Corporation (IDC) also released data on Thursday afternoon. The numbers were slightly different and showed a total shipping volume of 72 million PCs in the quarter. IDC also found HP topped 18 million shipments, followed by Lenovo with 17 million and Dell with 12 million. According to IDC, Apple has shipped 5 million PCs and Acer has shipped more than 4 million.
IDC also attributed the growth in deliveries to the pandemic.
“The strong demand due to work-from-home and e-learning requirements has exceeded expectations and placed the PC at the center of the technology portfolio of consumers,” said Jitesh Ubrani, research manager for IDC Mobile Device Tracker. “It remains to be seen whether this demand and high levels of utilization will continue during a recession and in the post-COVID world as budgets shrink as schools and jobs reopen.”
