Panasonic’s new Lumix G100 vlogging camera adds Nokia Ozo spatial audio to the mix
While Olympus is leaving the camera business, one of its competitors is expanding its range. The new Lumix G100 camera from Panasonic with its f3.5-5.6, 12-32 mm lens and a new handle, which also serves as a tripod, is aimed at vloggers with a weight of almost 412 grams. It is also the first camera of its kind to use Nokia Ozo Audio for spatial audio, which works with the camera’s face tracking to follow the subject’s voice.
The G100 uses a four-thirds sensor to record high-resolution QFHD 4K videos with a resolution of 3,840 x 2,160 pixels at 30p or 24p in MP4 and a Full HD resolution at 60p. All V-LogL recordings are also available. Panasonic’s five-axis hybrid image stabilization promises that things will look smooth when walking with the camera.
However, the audio is really the standout feature here. Nokia worked closely with Panasonic to optimize the camera’s three-microphone array and develop sound recording capabilities that could accommodate different uses, such as interviews or first-person selfie comments, whether indoors, outdoors, or on the move Announcement of cooperation.
The G100 also features a new video selfie mode that lets you and your background stay in focus without having to adjust the aperture. Also new is the tripod handle DMW-SHGR1 from Panasonic, with which you can hold something while recording, but which can also be opened in a tripod. You can also start and stop the video recording and the shutter release via a USB connection. After a firmware update, the handle can also be used with Panasonic cameras GH5, GH5S, G9, G95 and G85.
No price has been announced for the camera, but Panasonic expects the Lumix G100 to be available in late July.
