Over half of you hate the Prime Video experience

Amazon is spending nearly $ 9 billion buying MGM to bolster the Prime Video catalog. Personally, however, I think the biggest problem with Prime Video isn’t content, it’s user experience. In fact, I said that in an opinion piece over the weekend.

I also wanted to know something Android Authority Readers thought of the Prime Video experience and left a poll at the end of the article. Did you agree with the assessment or do you think Prime Video will deliver a good experience? That’s how you voted.

Results

We released the poll on May 29th and at the time of writing it had just over 1,000 votes. Interestingly, only 17.58% of respondents say they like the Prime Video experience. Some of the comments praised Amazon’s streaming service for its content library, x-ray functionality, and the value it adds to being included in Amazon Prime.

However, more voters (29.2%) felt indifferent to Prime Video, perhaps feeling the experience wasn’t bad, but not good either.

Still, 53.22% of respondents said they actually hate the Prime Video experience. That is three times the number of votes compared to the “I like it” camp. Comments pointed to challenges with content recognition, the user interface in general, ads, and more.

Of course, this poll isn’t necessarily indicative of Prime Video subscribers in general. However, it still suggests that Amazon still has a long way to go if most people want to actually use the streaming service.

  • Ben Baggley: It sure is pretty bad. In the past, 4k content was also listed separately. I remember when The Boys first came out it was highlighted for me on the front page and I watched a few episodes in 1080p before realizing I could see the 4k version if I went after the show would be looking for. Honestly, I’m not a fan of the entire Amazon experience. Finding what you’re looking for is often incredibly tedious.
  • Joshua R. Poulson: No, the biggest problem is that you can buy something and still lose access to it and it won’t be refunded. I bought the Rubicon series a long time ago. It was removed. And when it was added back my old purchase was not valid. They also briefly removed the documentary “Hoaxed”. You just can’t trust them.
  • Wendi Martin: I really like Amazon Prime. I agree with some of the complaints, but they have a huge library and a lot more shows that I actually want to see than Netflix. Netflix works fine, but what’s the use if 3/4 of the content is tripe.
  • lilli stern: Really hate the 181 second commercial !!
  • pda96: Prime Video is light years behind Netflix in terms of content and user interface. The latter is an absolute mess. The user has to spend a lot of time searching for a suitable movie to watch. There is no way to permanently remove the “Continue Watching” movies. They will reappear even if you remove them from the list. So annoying!! Amazon likely feels that there is no need to upgrade the experience as Prime Video is a giveaway for Prime members. Spend a small chunk of your billions to fix this, oh Mr. Cheapskate Bezos !!
  • 🇦🇺Marshall: It’s definitely not the best experience, I find Netflix and Stan easier to use, but fine for what it is – a bonus feature on free Amazon shipping. I find content recommendations terrible on all streaming platforms so this is not news.
  • DigitalSoul: The Amazon Prime Finding Content Mini-Game is the most successful game produced by Amazon Game Studios. It’s awful, no idea why they never bothered to fix it.
  • Paul Balyoz: What I love about Amazon Prime content is the XRay feature – for each scene you can see who the actors are and sometimes the music that is being played. But some shows / movies these days don’t have enough data and show only a few actors for the entire movie, immutable rather than specific to the current scene.
