Where to watch the top snubs and upsets from the Oscar nominations for 2022

The Green Knight

There were so many terrific films released in 2021. It’s impossible for all of them to get nominated. Still, every year, some films are seen as shoe-ins for the Oscars yet get few or no nominations at all. Spider-Man: No Way Home was always a long shot for the 2022 awards, but a few other titles that seemed to have a fighting chance were left out.

Here are a few major examples of might-have-been Oscar nominations for 2022, and where you can watch them to decide for yourself if you think they were truly snubbed:

  • The Green Knight: Despite some early buzz and some stunning cinematography, this Arthurian fantasy epic came and went relatively quietly. Rent or buy it on VOD.
  • The Harder They Fall: This revisionist western from first-time director Jeymes Samuel is one of Netflix’s finest originals, but you wouldn’t know it from the Oscar nominations for 2022. Watch it on Netflix.
  • House of Gucci: Many assumed Lady Gaga and Jared Leto would score acting nods in this true-crime tale from Ridley Scott. Rent or buy it on VOD.
  • The Last Duel: This Ridley Scott-directed period drama featured some career-high performances from Ben Affleck and Jodie Comer, but neither got an Oscar nomination in 2022. Watch it on HBO Max.
  • Passing: This Netflix original film had a lot of Oscar buzz, including for a career-defining performance by Ruth Negga. Watch it on Netflix.
  • Pig: Nicolas Cage was a knockout in this tale of a hermit seeking justice when his truffle-hunting pig is stolen. Watch it on Hulu.
  • Zola: This feature film based on a viral Twitter thread was one of the most electrifying films of the year, but the Academy barely noticed. Watch it on Showtime.
