TL; DR
- Renderings of the Oppo Watch 2 have been leaked.
- As the successor to the Wear OS-operated Oppo Watch, the new wearable will hit the market on July 27th.
In the four images of the Oppo Watch 2 leaked by Blass, we see a square device similar to its predecessor. It has two buttons on the right side and the renderings show blue, red and black colors for the straps.
One of the leaked images of the Oppo Watch 2 shows that it can receive calls, which is what we saw on the original Oppo Watch as well. A retail listing of the smartwatch on China’s JD.com confirms that it will offer eSIM support in its home market. This was also the case with the previous Oppo Watch. However, it remains to be seen whether the second generation Oppo Watch will be equipped with eSIM functions worldwide.
Meanwhile, another rendering of the Oppo Watch 2 shows map instructions on the display. This suggests that the device could have built-in GPS like the first generation Oppo Watch.
Oppo Watch 2 specifications
Under the hood, the Oppo Watch 2 could be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 4100 Plus SoC in conjunction with the Ambiq Apollo 4s coprocessor. The second chip is intended to help the smartwatch run an energy-saving RTOS in addition to the main operating system.
With the latter, it is unclear whether the Oppo Watch 2 will be equipped with Wear OS this time. With the Snapdragon 4100 Plus at its core, the wearable should be technically capable of running Google’s new Wear OS 3. However, Google recently shared a list of current and future supported devices for the software and the Oppo Watch 2 wasn’t among them. That said, things could change if the Oppo Watch 2 leaves China.
Elsewhere it is rumored that the Oppo Watch 2 has seven models that are divided into 42mm and 46mm sizes. It could receive 16 GB of storage, up from 8 GB in the current model. It is also equipped with stress detection, remote camera control, an optimized user interface and a new relax app. However, these findings only relate to the Chinese model of the smartwatch.
