- Oppo teased a new phone with a retractable display.
- The company will showcase it on November 17th at its Inno Day Tech Event.
- This wouldn’t be the only rollable phone in the works.
Oppo’s upcoming Inno Day Tech Event is a platform for the company to showcase its new merchandise and technology that we will see at some point in its future products. Last week, the Chinese phone maker teased a new portable AR Glass that it plans to announce at the November 17th event. Now Oppo has teased another Inno Day product that may be stealing the limelight from LG – a rollable phone.
The company went to Weibo and Twitter to test a new phone with a retractable display. “Big screen? Small screen? Infinite screen? In the future, your mobile phone may be able to retreat freely,” the Weibo post reads (machine translated).
The teaser is also accompanied by an image showing a curved corner and a display protruding from the case of the phone. The same concept phone image was used on Twitter, with Oppo claiming the device would “usher in a new era of the screen”. Check it out below.
Oppo hasn’t revealed much else, but it looks like this could be a prototype or a concept phone, as TCL showed earlier this year. LG is also rumored to be working on a similar rollable phone, but could Oppo beat LG in terms of commercialization? It’s not clear yet, but LG was already teasing a rollable phone design when Wing launched, and rumors point to a March 2021 launch.
We hope Oppo shows a working device and also gives us a glimpse of how the software would adapt to scrollable screens. The future of phones definitely looks flexible and Oppo seems right in the middle of it. We can’t wait to see what’s in store for us.
