Oppo teams up with VW, Anker for broader VOOC flash charging support

Oppo has started a new project to license its VOOC flash charging technology to more companies in the technology space. The aim is to expand the support of its proprietary charging smartphones beyond smartphones and chargers.
Oppo, called The Flash Initiative, initially won Anker, FAW-Volkswagen and NXP Semiconductors for the program. This suggests that VOOC technology could be available via semiconductor support on portable chargers, cars, and other third-party devices.

Oppo released its VOOC technology back in 2014 – an era when 20W charging was considered pretty quick. Last year Oppo presented its 125 W charging technology with its special module. AirVOOC also supports wireless charging up to 65 W.
There is one caveat, however – it is likely that initial rollouts will be limited to China. Oppo says its VOOC solution will be available in Volkswagen cars in the country. It hasn’t provided details for other nations, but it wouldn’t be difficult to envision partnerships beyond its borders.
It is unclear when the products will be launched for the first time. Oppo also announced a contactless charging solution at MWC Shanghai this week, but there is no indication that this technology will be available through this initiative.
