OnePlus won’t preinstall Facebook apps on its new phones
- OnePlus no longer bundles Facebook apps and services on its new phones.
- It does so after the social giant’s merchandise is pre-installed on some Oxygen OS 11 devices like the Nord.
- This also means the OnePlus 8T won’t start with Facebook products pre-installed.
OnePlus began by preloading Facebook’s apps and services on some Oxygen OS 11 devices, annoying users who appreciated the company’s largely bloat-free user interface. Fortunately, that will change with the OnePlus 8T.
The company confirmed to entrance that new OnePlus phones don’t come with a wide variety of Facebook products. This starts with the company’s new flagship.
This is a pretty quick turnaround for the company. OnePlus Nord is preinstalled with the App Suite, which contains a number of background services that cannot be uninstalled.
Adding Facebook merchandise to Oxygen OS was a risky game. OnePlus had already come under fire for the design deviation from Oxygen OS 11. It went from being a near-stock Android experience to something similar to Samsung’s One UI.
While this turnaround remains controversial, adding pre-installed services from Facebook that cannot be uninstalled is likely only to add to the annoyance of users.

It seems that users played a role in the OnePlus reversal as well. The company told entrance that it was the backlash of his fans that sparked the rethink. We have to wonder why OnePlus continued the move in the first place.
While users can sleep soundly at night knowing their future OnePlus phones will be Facebook-free, we wouldn’t be overly surprised if the company reconsidered that strategy in the years to come.
