OnePlus Nord phones are factory resetting in owners’ pockets
- OnePlus Nord users report spontaneous factory resets.
- Resetting often leads to data loss.
- OnePlus is reportedly working on a fix.
It’s not uncommon for phones to have teething problems in their early days, but this seems to be more serious than most. Android police notes that OnePlus Nord owners report spontaneous factory resets in the company’s forums (one, two, three), which often lead to data loss.
It is not sure what is causing the problem as it does not appear to be tied to a specific firmware version. The device deletion processes also do not require any user intervention. Some users report that OnePlus Nord was reset in their pockets. Others have reported multiple unexpected resets for the same device.
We asked OnePlus for a comment. APThe tipster said a OnePlus rep had promised a fix was in development but didn’t provide any further details. There is no official mention of any way to mitigate or work around the problem.

This doesn’t necessarily mean your phone is affected. As with other phone faults, the chances are that the factory settings are limited to a handful of units. However, it is safe to say that you want to back up all the data on your OnePlus Nord that you cannot afford to lose. You don’t want to miss out on an irreplaceable SMS log or unforgettable video.
It is not certain when a fix might arrive. OnePlus updated the Nord about two weeks ago and may not have a quick turnaround. However, the factory resets have been taking place for several weeks. If OnePlus already knows a problem, an update may be available relatively soon. You may not want to return your Nord or you may want to cancel your upgrade plans. But be aware that the phone is in a difficult condition.
