- A stable Oxygen OS update leads to a complete data erasure of the OnePlus 8 series.
- The problem affects OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro devices that are running Oxygen OS 11 Open Beta 3.
- OnePlus recognized the problem and warned against an upgrade.
OnePlus released the stable Oxygen OS 11.0.1.1 update for OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro over the weekend. However, the software that followed Oxygen OS 11 Open Beta 3 is far from stable. A number of Open Beta 3 users who received the update have reported that it will result in a complete data wipe on their phones.
Once the update is installed, users will be prompted to restart their devices. When they do this, the data on their phones will be completely erased. Unfortunately, several users report that their phones were set to update automatically and they had no choice but to install the faulty software.
One user even tried to downgrade to Oxygen OS 10 and update to Oxygen OS 11 Open Beta 3 to fix the problem. Even if the automatic updates are disabled, the user reports that the phone itself has been updated, requested a restart, and then erased all data again.

For its part, OnePlus has recognized the problem. A representative took to the company’s forums on Saturday and said the OnePlus software team was looking into the matter. The person also warned users about upgrading to the stable update.
“If you receive an update OTA, please double-confirm whether it is an open beta update. If this is not the case, please do not install it, ”said the OnePlus forums.
If you’ve already installed the update but haven’t restarted your phone, OnePlus recommends following the steps below to avoid data loss.
- Install this APK. You’ll need to install it after the update is installed but before you restart.
- After installing the APK, run the application and tap “Keep Data”.
- You should now be able to restart the phone without losing your data.
According to OnePlus, users should back up important data before restarting their phones after following the steps above.
