When OnePlus introduced the OnePlus 7 Pro in 2019, the 7T Pro followed later that year, in addition to the release of the 7 and 7T. Based on the fact, one might think that OnePlus would have a similar strategy in 2020. Finally, the year started with the OnePlus 8 series with the usual Vanilla and Pro models. However, OnePlus plans to do things differently this year. CEO Pete Lau recently confirmed that the company has no plans to bring out an 8T Pro.
And who could blame OnePlus? There weren’t many notable differences between the 7 Pro and the 7T Pro, leaving the company’s die-hard fans with little reason to upgrade to the latter. With a new mid-range offering in OnePlus Nord and apparently even cheaper phones on the way, OnePlus could use an optimized range of products.
We’ve rounded up everything we know about the OnePlus 8T with all the leaks, rumors, and confirmed details.
When is the OnePlus 8T release date?
OnePlus has confirmed that it plans to unveil the 8T on October 14th. The company will be showing off the phone via an online event scheduled for 10 p.m. ET. An Amazon leak suggests that the OnePlus 8T could go on sale as early as October 20th.
OnePlus usually starts dripping information about its next phone on Twitter and other social media platforms weeks before an official announcement. With the company recognizing the existence of the 8T, we should have more official information soon.
design
Aside from the OnePlus 6T, where the company removed the headphone jack from the OP6, OnePlus has usually played it safe with its T-series phones. We don’t expect it to deviate from this practice with the 8T. If you look at the OnePlus 8 and 8T side by side, they should be identical from the front. We know that thanks to a picture, fans from the fourth Android 11 developer preview OnePlus were released. Where the 8T could differ from its predecessor is a rectangular camera housing – more on this below.
In a recent interview with TechRadarLau confirmed that the phone has a 6.55-inch AMOLED screen with a refresh rate of 120 Hz. He also said the phone’s new flexible 2.5D screen will allow the panel to reach a peak brightness of 1,100 nits, making it more suitable for outdoor use. With a screen-to-body ratio of 91.9% compared to the 8 Pro’s 90.8%, it also has smaller screen bezels.

Technical data and functions of OnePlus 8T
In the past, OnePlus has used versions of the T series to give its fans the option to upgrade to the latest silicon from Qualcomm. This may not be the case this year. Instead of the chip maker’s new Snapdragon 865 Plus processor, OnePlus will apparently stick with the Snapdragon 865. That might seem like a bummer, but the 865 Plus is just a minor update over the already fast 865. As far as RAM goes, you can count on it. OnePlus offers the 8T in 8 GB and 12 GB configurations. This time around, you may also have the option to configure the 12GB model with 128GB of storage if you don’t need or need 256GB of storage.
Then there is the camera array that we mentioned. We expect the 8T to have a quad camera setup with 48MP, 16MP, 5MP and 2MP sensors that complement wide-angle, ultra-wide-angle, macro and portrait lenses. When you add a 32-megapixel selfie shooter, you get a more versatile OnePlus 8 Pro. OnePlus could expand the 8T’s camera setup with new software functions such as 8K recording at 960 frames per second.

With all these new components, the OnePlus 8T comes with a larger 4,500 mAh battery. Since the OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition, OnePlus has also bundled its 30 W Warp charging adapter with its phones. That pushed the company into the background against some of its competitors. The good news is that the 8T comes with a new 65W charger.
Thanks to the new charger and an updated dual battery layout, you can fully charge the OnePlus 8T to 58% in 39 minutes and around 15 minutes, according to OnePlus. It is less clear whether the phone can be charged wirelessly. After the OnePlus 8 Pro, it would be a step back for the 8T not to have this feature, but OnePlus can do without it to save costs.
OnePlus has also confirmed that the OnePlus 8T will run the Android 11-based Oxygen OS 11 immediately. That means OnePlus 8T buyers will get Oxygen OS’s redesigned user interface and a host of new features and all the improvements in Android 11 from day one. OnePlus 8T price and availability
As a rule, each new OnePlus flagship has cost more than its predecessor. However, the OnePlus 8T can break this trend. According to leaker Ishan Agarwal, the 8 GB base model will be available from 599 euros (~ 700 US dollars). This makes it 50 euros cheaper than the OnePlus 8, which is currently being sold for 649 euros. The Amazon leak mentioned above listed a price of € 693.18 for the 12 GB / 256 GB variant. That price is likely a placeholder, but it does set a good frame for what we can expect from the 8T.
That’s all of the OnePlus 8T leaks, rumors and official information so far. We’ll update this post as soon as we know more about the new OnePlus phone!
