  • According to a OnePlus spokesman, the OnePlus 7 series will be equipped with Android 11 in December 2020.
  • That means the OnePlus 7, 7 Pro, 7T and 7T Pro should have Oxygen OS 11 by the end of 2020.
  • This contradicts rumors that the series wouldn’t see the upgrade until 2021.

Today, Android Authority received a message from a OnePlus spokesperson confirming the Android 11 upgrade schedule for the OnePlus 7 series. According to OnePlus, the company plans to roll out Oxygen OS 11 on the 7-series phones in December 2020.

This confirmation contradicts recent rumors that it could be 2021 before OnePlus’ flagships for 2019 saw Android 11.

Since the 7-series has two slightly different chipsets – the Snapdragon 855 for OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro and the 855 Plus for 7T and 7T Pro – the upgrades will likely land at slightly different times. In theory, the 7T series should be upgraded first, followed shortly after by the 7 series.

OnePlus 7 Android 11 upgrades

OnePlus has a long history of providing Android upgrades quickly. However, that reputation is based on the idea that the brand only releases two phones a year. Recently, the company’s portfolio has expanded significantly, which undoubtedly weighs on the upgrade speed.

Obviously, most OnePlus owners would hope that the Android 11 upgrade will roll out even faster. However, December 2020 is likely to beat many other flagships from competing brands like Samsung from 2019.

When it lands, the OnePlus 7 Android 11 upgrade should include most of the Oxygen OS 11 features that are present on the OnePlus 8T that has just launched. This should include an always-on display option, but this will not be confirmed until the beta software is available.
