OnePlus 6 and 6T get Android 11 via an open beta
TL; DR
- OnePlus announced today that the OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T now have Android 11 access.
- However, to get the update you will need to join the open beta as there is no stable version.
- Taking into account the usual OnePlus beta timelines, the OnePlus 6 series will likely not see a stable launch of Android 11 until the end of the third or even fourth quarter of 2021.
Unfortunately, you have to consent to the use of beta software for this to work. Beta software will not be stable and it is inevitable that you will encounter bugs and other problems during your daily use. Thankfully, jumping to the beta channel is pretty easy as it doesn’t even require a factory reset. Be warned that jumping is possible back on the stable channel would require a reset.
Typically, OnePlus’s beta programs take at least a month or two before we see a stable start. Judging by Google’s Android 12 plan, it is almost certain that Android 12 will hit the market in a stable form before the stable rollout of the OnePlus 6 and 6T Android 11 begins. That will sting.
As you’d expect, the Android 11 beta launch includes all of the usual features as well as some tweaks that are unique to OnePlus phones. See the full changelog below.
