The Oculus Quest, the out of control VR headset that has not been available to retailers since the holidays, is finally back in stock. This is great news for VR fans. The Quest has received an editorial choice Here at CNET last year and unlike most other devices, it has gotten much better with age. Oculus last year a Hand tracking update This allows developers to create games that don’t require controllers Oculus Link Software and cables make it possible to bind the Quest to a PC and to play games that were written for the HTC Vive. This brings us to the latest reason for bottlenecks: Half-life: Alyx, a flagship VR title from Valve, which was developed for expensive connected headsets, but can be easily played on a relatively inexpensive quest with the Oculus Link.
The headset was out of stock due to a combination of consumer demand and the impact of the headset Corona virus through manufacturing and even sales bots that automate the purchase of limited stock products like Quest and Nintendo Switch before average consumers can get to the site.
Various retailers are finally back in stock. If you’ve been waiting for a 64GB or 128GB model, you can place an order now. But there are many caveats. The inventory changes constantly and there is no guarantee that you will receive the version with the desired storage capacity. Therefore, you may have to choose whether to wait for further bottlenecks or buy 128 GB if you want the 64 GB version (or vice versa). As a dedicated quest owner, I would say that 64 GB can get a little tight, so I would personally recommend the 128 GB version. Still, uninstalling apps to make room for others is not difficult. it is simply impractical.
If you get a quest with plans to play Half-Life: Alyx, you’ll also need a long USB-C cable, and these were hard to come by. The gold standard is that 5-meter Oculus Link cable from Oculus, but that has long been out of stock. I chose that 3 m anchor powerline cableand while it works well for me, it’s a little short for VR games.
Finally, keep in mind that rumors about a are ongoing Next generation Oculus Quest Headset that could see the light of day later this year or sometime in 2021. But at the moment we only have rumors, so if you want to strap yourself into some Beat Saber or Half-life: Alyx sooner rather than later, check current availability below.
