  • Samsung and LG are reportedly stopping supplying displays to Huawei.
  • The company’s storage supplies are also believed to be threatened

Huawei has gone through 18 months as the U.S. ban means Google Mobile Services, chipset shipments from various third parties, and the services of chip maker TSMC have been lost. If it doesn’t seem like things can’t get worse for the company, so can they.

South Korean news agency Chosun Biz reports that LG and Samsung have decided to stop supplying “premium” smartphone displays to Huawei. The suspension is scheduled to take effect on September 15th.

Huawei has generally turned to LG and Samsung, along with China’s own BOE for its display needs. So if you cross LG and Samsung out of the equation, BOE likely needs to fill the gap. However, Chosun Biz Huawei is also testing displays from local companies such as Visionox, Tianma and CSOT.

An industry official told the publication that Huawei may also be struggling to obtain key components such as display and touch controller chips.

It looks like displays and related chips aren’t the only components threatened for Huawei, as Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix have also reportedly stopped trading with the company. This could potentially pose an equally big threat to Huawei, as the brands have long been a big supplier of RAM and flash storage to smartphone manufacturers.

All of this paints a picture of an incredibly massive challenge for the company as it has to rely on domestic partners or its own native technology to fill the gaps left by U.S. firms (or firms using U.S.-derived technology) to have.
