Nintendo unfolds Paper Mario for Switch, and it looks as charming as you’d expect
Nintendo surprised us with an announcement Paper Mario: The Origami King With a trailer loaded with puns Thursday morning. The puzzle-based adventure hits Switch on July 17th.
“Are you going to fold and be reborn like me?” an unusually creepy peach asks Mario before plunging him through a trap door.
Their apparent twist seems to be part of the new villain King Olly’s conspiracy, and it seems that Mario has to team up with old arch-enemy Bowser to stop him.
The ring-based combat system adds a puzzle element to the series turn-based battles by letting scattered enemies in a row to maximize damage. Mario will also have a new “1000 Fold Arms” train to expand and manipulate the world around him.
It was developed by Intelligent Systems, which was responsible for every game in the series. The original game came to N64 in 2000 and the latest version was Color Splash on Wii U.
