Nintendo Switch OLED or Steam Deck? It’s not even close.

Valve made a splash last week when it unveiled the Steam Deck handheld PC that lets you take your Steam library with you on the go. It’s not the only handheld that has made the headlines lately, as Nintendo has also announced a new Nintendo Switch model with an OLED screen.

The two devices are relatively close in price ($ 400 for the basic Steam Deck and $ 350 for the OLED switch), and that made us wonder which one you would actually buy. This is how you voted in this poll.

We released the poll on Friday, July 16, and at the time of writing it had over 2,700 votes tallied. And the winner is the Steam Deck with a landslide. Over three quarters of those surveyed said they would buy Valve’s upcoming handheld via the OLED switch.

The comments suggest that there are some important reasons for users to choose the PC-based handheld. Those reasons include the existing PC game library, rather than creating a new library from scratch, and the Switch’s aging internals. We could also see that the PC-based nature is very attractive to some compared to the locked Nintendo ecosystem.

Connected: The Steam Deck has potential – if Valve can stay committed

Almost a quarter of respondents (23.5%) say that they will pick up the Nintendo Switch OLED instead. None of the comments reflected this choice, but we suspect that the lower price, some killer exclusives (e.g. Super Smash Bros Ultimate, Breath of the Wild, etc.) and the OLED panel are reasons to buy the Nintendo handheld.

Even so, it seems like you can’t go wrong with either option if you want a high quality portable gaming experience.

Remarks

• Tennis freak: I’ve already placed my pre-order for a Steam Deck. Mid-range model with 256 GB of storage. No need to pay $ 400 for an outdated 4+ year old, underpowered handheld.
• Alex: Well, Steam Deck is an interesting concept, but not really in the same market as the Switch. Steam Deck has a ton of titles, all of which are made for the PC, and most of them are made with no or no regard to controllers as no PC gamer actually uses a controller. I would really wait and see if this concept gains momentum. If I were on Steam I would create a separate collection of games that are Steam Deck certified and a certification process to ensure a seamless experience on the deck.
• Shawn Hamm: I would buy the steam deck over the counter. I have a Steam library of over 200 games. Why start over?
• Joe Black: How about both of them?
• Shizuma: Steam Deck without thinking about it, I already have a Switch and the idea of ​​screen burn-in and likely poor image quality due to a likely Pentitle display for $ 50 more than my old Switch isn’t even remotely convincing.
• TheLastBattalion: As a person with a Switch, the Steam Deck is obviously a better package overall. It offers everything that Nintendo fans wanted from a Switch “Pro” model and even beyond.
