Nikola Badger is another challenger to an electric pickup who wants to fight in a segment that quickly fills up with competitors. Although the startup largely focused on it hydrogen-electric tractor units hasn’t shown a badger prototype, it’s ready open pre-orders.
The company announced on Monday that it will open pre-orders today. Anyone interested must make a $ 5,000 deposit, which, according to CEO Trevor Milton, is fully refundable. In a tweet announcing pre-orders, he seemed to be addressing Tesla and his “fan club.”
By making a reservation, a person will also receive a ticket to Nikola World, which is scheduled for December this year. There the company plans to provide much more information about that Badger pick up. However, Nikola still has some incredible specifications for the truck.
It is planned to offer the Badger as a purely electric pickup and a fuel cell / battery-electric hybrid drive train. The standard electric powertrain will likely reach a range of 300 miles, while the hydrogen / electric combination is said to travel 600 miles. Early specs also tease 906 horsepower and 980 pound-feet of torque plus a 0-60 mph time of 2.9 seconds.
The Badger is already facing fairly tough competition between established automakers and other startups. ford and General Motors Everyone has plans for electric trucks. Startup Rivian looks mighty credible with his R1Tand of course that Tesla cyber truck should be produced at the end of next year.
Nikola plans to design and build the pickup in-house, but the company does not plan to build it. Instead, it will work with another automaker to get the truck into production. We don’t know which automaker Nikola has in mind, but this partnership will be announced before December, the company says.
