New Nintendo Switch could get upgraded Nvidia chip, DLSS tech
- Nintendo’s next switch model is to receive a new chipset with new CPU cores.
- The console is also said to receive DLSS technology for 4K gaming when connected to a TV.
We’ve been hearing rumors of a new Nintendo Switch for a few months, and a report earlier this month pointed to 4K support and a 7-inch OLED screen. Now more details about the alleged upgrade seem to have become known.
Bloomberg claims that the updated Nintendo Switch model will come with a new Nvidia chipset, citing sources familiar with the situation. It is also claimed that the new chipset will have a better CPU and more memory.
New CPU cores would be a long overdue upgrade for the Switch processor, as the Nvidia Tegra X1 uses Cortex-A57 and Cortex-A53 cores that were introduced on smartphones in 2015. Improved CPU cores would theoretically provide faster performance in CPU-bound games and generally allow faster load times. There’s no word on other SoC details like the GPU and whether this is an entirely new design. That wouldn’t be the only major upgrade for the upcoming console, however Bloomberg.
The publication also claims that the updated switch supports Nvidia’s DLSS technology, which uses neural networks to upscale graphics. The sources of the outlet say this technology enables the new switch model to achieve 4K resolutions when plugged into a TV.
These sources add that since code needs to be added by developers, DLSS is mainly used to improve graphics in upcoming games. This isn’t a new technology either, as Nvidia’s recent PC graphics cards support this feature and allow for a significant boost in resolution without requiring a ton of performance.
ON Bloomberg The analyst also suggested that the updated console could be priced at $ 349.99 to $ 399.99, which is a premium of $ 50 to $ 100 over the current model. Would you buy the new Switch model for $ 100 more? Let us know by taking the survey above.
