New iOS text-bomb bug can crash your iPhone, but fix is said to be close

Strings of text that iPhones and iOS Crashing devices is not a new problem, but a new one occurred in 2020. After several bugs that annoyed iOS users over the past decade, it appears that a new string of text with Sindhi characters has appeared when it is sent to an iOS device.In a notification, the device freezes and requires a hard reset to get around Restore normal condition.

While some previous text errors were mostly spread through the News app, as described in a Twitter video by the popular YouTuber EverythingAppleProThis error can turn off an iOS device by only sending a notification with the characters it contains.

When he demonstrated the effects of the bug in his video, EverythingApplePro said that posting the text on Twitter inadvertently shutdown “several hundred phones”, indicating its reach beyond messaging apps.

Similar text strings, also known as “text bombs”, were found in 2018, 2017 and 2015if they crashed iPhones and iOS devices when viewed.

When you receive this text or encounter it on social media, EverythingApplePro says that holding the volume down and volume down will hard reset your iPhone and bring it back to normal.

The good news, like 9to5Mac notesis that Apple’s upcoming iOS 13.4.5 is reportedly not affected by this bug. This update is currently in beta and could be released soon. The iPhone manufacturer may release a minor interim update to fix the problem.

Those affected can also disable notifications to reduce the risk of a hit.

Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
