- An official Google blog post confirms that we will see new Google Smart Home products at I / O 2021.
- There was no indication of what to expect, but at least we know there will be an announcement.
- Smart Home will launch on May 19 at 4:15 p.m. (7:15 p.m. ET).
Google I / O 2021 will be completely virtual this year, which is better than what we got last year which was no I / O at all. As usual, the event begins with a keynote address by Sundar Pichai and other senior Googlers. We expect there will be at least one hardware announcement during this event. That begins May 18 at 10:00 a.m. (1:00 p.m. ET).
However, we will see some new Google Smart Home products later. On May 19 at 4:15 p.m. (7:15 p.m. ET), Google is hosting an event that will focus on the Google Assistant and the smart home. According to an official blog post for this event, we can expect new product announcements then.

Unfortunately, Google doesn’t give any indication of what to expect. It is also not clear whether these “new product announcements” are hardware or software based. However, we believe that it is safe to have at least one piece of new smart home hardware booted during the I / O.
Recently, Google discontinued its popular line of Nest-branded security systems. Is it possible that a replacement will be presented at the event? Plus, it’s been a while since we’ve seen new Nest cameras. Perhaps an update of this line is in preparation.
This year’s I / O is going to be the fifth anniversary of the Google Assistant, so Google will likely make it a pretty big deal. Stay tuned for more rumors about this launch and check out our full I / O rumor hub for the latest information.
