New Galaxy Z Flip will launch after the Galaxy S21 series
- The next Samsung Galaxy Z Flip, possibly called the Z Flip 2, is slated to hit the market in 2021 after the Galaxy S21 series.
- This would be a strategy change for Samsung, which launched the foldable model along with the S20 series in 2020.
- Up to five foldable devices are also expected from Samsung in the next year.
According to a new report from Korea, Samsung won’t launch the Galaxy Z Flip 2 until long after the Galaxy S21 series debuted.
Per The ElecThe Korean smartphone maker will not reveal or launch its smaller flip phone alongside its new flagship line at its upcoming unpacked event. That would be a departure from the 2020 strategy, where the Galaxy Z Flip launched alongside the Galaxy S20 series but went on sale before the flagships. The reason for the revamped game plan is because sales overlap – the company doesn’t seem to want the devices to steal potential customers from one another.
As a result, the Galaxy Z Flip 2 is expected to hit the market after the first quarter of 2021. According to previous rumors, it would be around three months after the Galaxy S21’s expected release date in early January. Despite the delay, 2021 will be a big year for Samsung’s foldable offerings. Up to five devices are expected. Samsung’s renewed focus on folding devices also seems more likely as rumors that the company will discontinue its Note line starting next year continue to grow in importance.

The report doesn’t shed much light on the Galaxy S21 series, but it repeats previous reports on three model offerings. As is tradition, the Vanille S21 is complemented by a Plus and an Ultra model. Manufacturing of the trio is slated to begin next month. Six million models should be available by the end of January 2021.
Samsung’s Unpacked event may be just around the corner. So expect an increase in leaks in the Galaxy Z Flip and Galaxy S21 in the coming weeks.
