  • The new Samsung Galaxy S30 Ultra rendering again points to a redesigned camera array.
  • The phone is said to have four rear view cameras and an “unknown” sensor.

Another alleged rendering of the Samsung Galaxy S30 Ultra has appeared, offering new details about the phone’s possible rear-view camera array and a mystery sensor.

According to Tipper Steve Hemmerstoffer, the image is largely in line with the renders we saw earlier. The Galaxy S30 Ultra will likely have a redesigned camera array that will be shared with the S30 and S30 Plus. More important is what the S30 Ultra’s camera array contains. According to Hemmerstoffer, the phone will now record four cameras next to a fifth “unknown” sensor in the top right of the housing.

There are few details about the Galaxy S30 Ultra’s camera arsenal, but early specs suggest the company could get significant inspiration from the Galaxy S20 Ultra. It is then possible for Samsung to reuse the 108MP sensor. The tele and ultrawide setup can also repeat their roles. We’ve also seen rumors that Samsung could add a secondary telephoto camera in a similar fashion to the Huawei Mate 40 Pro Plus and P40 Pro Plus. This would improve the image quality over the zoom range.

What about the mystery sensor? A rumor has it that Samsung may drop the ToF camera like it did with the Note 20 series. But that sensor in the top-right corner definitely looks like an unconventional addition, suggesting it is an autofocus module or a ToF sensor.

Interestingly, this wouldn’t be the first time we’ve heard of a rumored Samsung phone with five rear sensors. The Galaxy A72, which is apparently due to hit the market in early 2021, has a 64-megapixel sensor, telephoto and ultrawide shooter, as well as a special bokeh lens and macro shooter.
