Netatmo outdoor security camera has a siren built in
Smart home company Netatmo has a new device, the $ 350 hard-wired outdoor surveillance camera with siren. Netatmo is already selling a $ 300 outdoor surveillance camera, formerly called Netatmo Presence, looks identical to this new model. However, the existing hard-wired camera does not have a built-in siren, so you can now choose between the two options.
Like the original outdoor surveillance camera, this model equipped with sirens has 1,080p HD live streaming and motion detection functions that can be used to distinguish between normal movement and people, animals and cars. Note that the person detection function of this camera is different from face recognition. It can tell you that it sees a person, not who it sees.
The outdoor surveillance camera with siren also has adjustable motion detection zones, night vision and an integrated floodlight. You can create your own automations in the Netatmo app so that the light turns on automatically when motion is detected. However, the siren with 105 decibels is controlled manually – you will receive a warning and activate the siren manually in the app as required.
Despite the high upfront costs of this camera, it offers a longer-term cost-saving feature: an integrated microSD card that stores your videos locally, instead of a monthly or annual cloud service subscription. Local storage is a bonus, especially for privacy-conscious people – or for anyone who doesn’t want to pay any additional fees for accessing their saved video clips.
Netatmos upcoming outdoor surveillance camera with siren should work Alexa, the Google Assistant and Apple HomeKit (although it doesn’t work with that HomeKit Secure Video still – that will come later in 2020).
The outdoor surveillance camera with siren can now be pre-ordered in Europe. Netatmo says it will be available in US stores “later this year”.
