Native Union Dock Wireless Charger: What is it?

The Native Union Dock Wireless Charger makes a good statement. It doesn’t just go away or blend in with your home decor. The Dock Wireless Charger is a large wireless charging stand that picks up on popular accessories in a modern way.

When you first open the box, you are greeted by a large CD that lies flat. Our test device is upholstered in gray fabric, but different options are available, including pink fabric and mixed leather. A steel plate is hidden under the disc. It is difficult. You need to slide the plate through a slot in the disc to create the Native Union Dock Standing Wireless Charger. Choose a place and set it up. Rubber feet on the lower edge of the disc and the metal plate ensure that the stand does not slide around on flat surfaces. It’s big and doesn’t necessarily fit everywhere, like a small bedside table.

The steel plate adds weight and stability and also provides the edge on which to place your phone. Native Union said it created the perfect angle for your phone. I don’t know how perfect it is, but I like the angle. It sure is better than the reclined angle of the Samsung Wireless Charger Stand. Native Union included a 6.5-foot USB-C to USB-A braided cable, but no charging brick. The company recommends using the charger that came with your phone.

How does it work?

The Native Union Dock wireless charger is limited to charging at 10W. The company claims they have special thermal protectors to ensure that both the charger and the phone are protected. There is no fan or other cooling technology on board. It also has foreign object detection, which means random metal objects will not activate the charger. The 10W charging speed is only applicable to Android phones that support it. The Apple iPhone can only be charged with a maximum of 7.5 W.

In our tests, the Native Union wireless charger took our phones quite a long time to turn on than the Samsung wireless charging stand, which supports faster charging at 15W. The Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus achieved 12% in 15 minutes, 26% in 30 minutes, 56% in 60 minutes and 100% in just under two hours. The iPhone 11 Max Pro was slower due to the 7.5W limitation. A 50% charge took almost 90 minutes and a full charge took 2.5 hours.

Native Union Dock Wireless Charger Review: Should You Buy It?

Native Union has developed a nice-looking, if slightly oversized, wireless charger for smartphones. It’s more visually appealing than Samsung’s charger, but the size makes up for that. More precisely, the Native Union calculates more slowly. It also costs $ 10 more than the Samsung at $ 69.99. The only real advantage the Native Union has over the Samsung charger is that their standing angle is much more bearable.

However, these performance metrics won’t be enough to discourage those who prefer style over substance. The Native Union charger is more on display than most of its competitors. For the modern home, it might be worth paying a little more for the angular design.
