NASA’s bold Mars helicopter, Ingenuity, could open the skies on other worlds

The NASA Mars helicopter team will add a piece to the flight model in early 2019.

If NASA’s Perseverance Rover lands on Mars in early 2021, it won’t arrive alone. There is a tiny one Helicopter called Ingenuity The innovative helicopter is in the belly of the rover and is intended to expand exploration options on other planets.

NASA hopes Ingenuity will be the first example of a powered flight on another planet. It won’t be easy considering how different conditions on Mars are from Earth.

Perseverance and his chopper buddy are ready to start in July for a planned arrival of Mars in February 2021. Does Mars have a friendly sky? Hopefully we’ll find out next year.
