Mysterious Google Pixel 5s breaks cover in new leaked shots
- An obvious Google Pixel 5 variant leaked in new live-action footage.
- The phone in question is physically similar to the Pixel 5 as shown in previous leaks.
- There are suggestions that this so-called “Pixel 5s” could support mmWave 5G.
We’ve seen plenty of alleged footage from the Google Pixel 5, but new live imagery suggests that another variant, namely the Pixel 5s, may be in the works.
The device in question, which a Mexican radio personalityrecalls the alleged Pixel 5 that was discovered in previous leaks. The rounded square camera array with this second camera, the rear fingerprint sensor and the hole in the front are visible.

Where this device differs is the model name. As suggested on the information screen, this device is called the Pixel 5s.
It’s not immediately clear what would differentiate the Pixel 5s from the Pixel 5, however XDA‘s Mishaal Rahman believes the differentiator could be the presence of mmWave 5G support.
What could the Pixel 5s be?
There is generally no precedent for companies naming devices this way based on their mmWave smarts. These phones are often distinguished by suffixes (in the case of the Samsung Galaxy A UW series and OnePlus 8 5G UW on Verizon), but we haven’t seen the “s” distinguishing feature used in this way.
That is, “s” has been used by a number of OEMs in the past to denote superior hardware. So it’s theoretically possible for Google to prepare a tiered Pixel 5 lineup to tackle multiple price points if it’s not a mmWave variant.
While it is believed that the Pixel 5 could be powered by the Snapdragon 765G to keep costs down, Google flagships previously used Snapdragon 800-series chipsets. An “s” variant could enable the company to continue this trend, but could also offer a more cost-effective variant.
Little else can be deduced from these recordings other than that the phone is running an early version of Android 11, which is now officially rolling over to other pixels and devices.
