Update, September 14, 2020 (1:45 p.m. ET): Motorola today announced the pricing and availability of its new Moto One 5G smartphone. As promised, the 5G-powered mid-ranger costs less than $ 500 – specifically $ 444.99.

Unfortunately, the phone seems to be locked to AT&T, at least initially. The phone lands on September 18 with the second largest mobile operator in the country. If you buy the device on an installment plan and add a new line of unlimited service, you pay just $ 5 per month for it. That gives a discount of 50% on the already low price.

At some point, the Moto One 5G will likely be available both from other providers and in an unlocked state. Currently, however, it looks like AT&T customers will have exclusive access to it on September 18th.

Original article, Aug. 31, 2020 (9:00 p.m. ET): Motorola has already released some 5G phones this year and is now adding another device to its stable with the Moto One 5G. However, it looks like the new phone will actually be a rebranded Moto G 5G Plus that was released last month.

The manufacturer seems to be following the formula of Realme and Xiaomi for rebranding devices with the Moto One 5G. That means you’ll have the same chipset, refresh rate, cameras, and battery size as last month’s device.

Moto One 5G specs and features

Even so, the new phone is the first 5G-enabled device in the value-driven Moto One range to be supported by a Snapdragon 765 processor. If you put in 4GB of RAM, you have a phone that isn’t the most powerful device on paper (even when compared to other mid-range 5G devices), but it should do most of the work.

In addition to 5G connectivity, the Moto One 5G has two other notable features. First up is a 6.7-inch LCD (FHD +) screen with a refresh rate of 90 Hz. Sure, it’s not an OLED, but it should deliver smoother performance when scrolling, swiping through system menus, and playing supported games .

The second standout feature is the 5,000 mAh battery, which should have a good lifespan, although the high refresh rate and 5G connectivity drain the battery faster than normal. However, this is still a significantly larger battery than the OnePlus Nord and Samsung Galaxy A51 5G. It’s unclear whether Motorola is offering 15W or 20W charges here (we have conflicting information from the company), but you should still wait a while for a full charge.

The Moto One 5G switches to the most important section of the camera and for the most part offers your typical budget-conscious quad rear camera setup. We have a 48MP main shooter, an 8MP ultra-wide camera (118 degree field of view), a 5MP macro camera with a ring light, and a 2MP depth lens. Similar to the OnePlus Nord, we also have a dual lens setup at the front with a 16-megapixel main shooter and an 8-megapixel ultra-wide camera.

The data sheet is rounded off by a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, water-repellent design, 3.5 mm connection, Bluetooth 5.1, Wi-Fi 6 and NFC.

Moto One 5G: software updates, price, more

Motorola is also shipping Android 10 on the device, but unlike Samsung, it only promises an OS upgrade. If there’s any consolation, buyers get security upgrades for two years, though that’s not much to report when others offer up to three years of support.

Motorola has not disclosed pricing and availability details at the time of writing. Other than that they’ll be under $ 500. We will update the article as soon as we have more information on this. However, since the Moto G 5G Plus costs 349 euros, we would expect similar prices for the new device.
