Motorola Space Charging can charge 4 devices at once
TL; DR
- Motorola has demonstrated its improved version of over-the-air charging.
- The company’s space charging solution offers the ability to charge four devices at the same time.
- The improved technology also allows users to charge devices up to three meters away.
Xiaomi was the first major brand to demonstrate air charging technology and, earlier this year, unveiled its Mi Air Charge solution that allows users to charge their devices over the air. Motorola quickly followed suit with a brief demonstration of its own technology, but the company is back today with more details and a video.
Motorola has published further details on its so-called space charging technology on its Weibo account. At the time of its first unveiling, the company was showing the ability to charge multiple devices at the same time over a one-meter radius. But it looks like Motorola has made things better in that regard.
The company says its space charging technology now allows up to four devices to be charged at the same time at a distance of up to three meters. According to Motorola, the solution also offers a 100-degree coverage area. Check out the official video below to demonstrate the updated technology.
Motorola also advises that the air charging station has 1,600 antennas, can pass paper and other obstacles, and can stop charging in a specific area if a human body is detected.
There doesn’t seem to be an official word on maximum load speeds, although the serial tipper’s digital chat station says it’s at 5W speeds. That’s very slow in the age of 4,000 mAh and 5,000 mAh batteries, so you should still have that traditional wired charger handy when you need a quick boost.
Still, the slow speed makes sense if the phone is constantly charging this way, much like how some people leave their phone on a wireless charging pad during the day. For other accessories such as Bluetooth earphones or smartwatches, a maximum of 5W should not be a problem.
