TL; DR

  • Motorola has announced an event for August 5th in China.
  • The Weibo post and teaser image point to flagship phones.
  • We expect the Edge 20 family to debut here.

We know the Motorola Edge 20 series of flagship phones are in the works thanks to leaks and certification lists. What we didn’t know was when exactly the phones would hit the market, but it looks like we have a date.

Motorola traveled to Weibo to announce a press conference in China on Aug. 5, scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Beijing time (7:30 a.m. ET). Take a look at the image attached below.

The company didn’t exactly state that the Edge 20 series would be launched that day, but the machine-translated Weibo post mentions a focus on “cutting-edge”. So we can assume that this event is not only dedicated to the middle class or budget goods.

Adding more credibility to the Edge flagships that are emerging is the teaser image that obscures the seemingly “108MP” branding (as seen above). Previous leaks show that the Motorola Edge 20 Plus could be equipped with a 108 MP main camera.

Other obvious Edge 20 Plus specs include a 6.67-inch 120 Hz OLED screen, 4,230 mAh battery, and possibly a Snapdragon 870 SoC in place of the high-end Snapdragon 888 chipset.

In the meantime, the standard Edge 20 will be equipped with a Snapdragon 778G processor, the same 6.67-inch OLED panel with 120 Hz and a 4,000 mAh battery. The vanilla device is also said to have a 108 MP main camera, a 16 MP ultra-wide snapper and an 8 MP tertiary sensor.

What are you hoping for the Motorola Edge 20 series? Let us know via the poll above.
