- Motorola has announced a new wireless charging solution.
- It can charge a device at a distance of 1 m.
- The technology could appear on future Motorola Edge series phones.
It seems like wireless charging will be the new smartphone trend for 2021. Xiaomi just detailed its Mi Air Charge technology today, and now Motorola is on the rise too.
Moto’s air-to-air charging solution was announced on Weibo (h / t) by Chen Jin, General Manager of Lenovo China XDA developer). The executive did not go into many details like Xiaomi, but published a video that shows Motorola’s new technology in action.
The video shows how Motorola wireless charging technology can remotely charge multiple phones. It can turn on a phone up to 1 meter away. The demo also shows that the charging transmitter can be blocked by hand to stop downloading.
The Lenovo GM asked Weibo if the company should add the technology in future Motorola Edge series devices, but it’s unclear whether the brand is ready to commercialize it yet. There is also no word about what charging speeds Motorola’s technology can deliver or whether it can overcome obstacles in its path like Xiaomi’s solution.
We reached out to the company to inquire about their air-to-air charging plans. We’ll update this article when we hear back from you. Until then, you can see the technology in action in the video embedded above.
