Most readers barely use panorama mode on their phones
Panorama mode is included in most smartphone camera apps these days. While the mode allows you to shoot scenes wider than usual, it is cumbersome. Buried in some apps, it’s pretty easy to forget too.
With that in mind, in this survey we asked you how often do you use Panorama mode on your phone. Here’s what you told us:
When was the last time you used panorama mode on your phone?
Results
The majority of the ~ 1,500 readers surveyed either haven’t used Panorama mode in over a year or have never used it. Just over 50% of those surveyed fall into one of these two categories. Notably, 14.5% of our readers regularly use Panorama mode on their devices. These respondents have used it within the “last week”. Around 22% of readers are less frequent users of the panorama mode and have been using it in the “last few months”. Almost 14% of readers remember using the mode “last year”.

The crash of panorama mode is understandable. It was an extremely useful software trick for single lens phones. However, as more and more devices spawned multiple camera arrays, including special wide-angle shooters, panorama mode apparently fell by the wayside.
However, some believe that ultra-wide cameras are not a direct substitute for panorama mode. These readers were in full force in the comments section.
Here’s what you told us:
- Resuna: I don’t see wide and panorama modes as alternate views of the same thing. Panorama mode gives you a full 360 × 180 sphere that you can’t get in any single lens view. Looking at a panorama is almost like being there.
- Chris JK: Last week I used the ultrawide camera on my S21 in panorama mode to capture the sunset in my yard. The first phone I had with an ultrawide camera, and while useful, I’ve found that it isn’t always wide enough for the task, but get it working within The panorama mode makes something very special.
- Farhan Ahmad Tajuddin: The last time I used panorama mode on my phone it was like before the COVID-19 pandemic hits. Now that I have a 360 degree camera, I don’t think I’ll be going back to panorama mode again.
- Joe Black: I know a few people who use it from time to time, but for me? I’m more than fine with wide and ultrawide for my shots.
- Brian Fowler: I think more than 5 years ago. I am thinking of my LG G3.
- Aris Routis: I’m just not interested in panoramic shots. I prefer the good use of wide angle shots.
That’s it for our Panorama Mode poll. Thank you for your votes and comments. If you have any other thoughts about the panorama mode survey results on phones, please drop them in the comments.
