Do you turn off your smartphone’s Bluetooth and NFC radios when not in use? It’s a seemingly innocuous question that really got you all talking.
In a recent survey, we asked you for your views on your daily Bluetooth and NFC usage habits. That’s how you voted.

We first surveyed readers on our website, but also added the survey to Twitter and YouTube. Interestingly, the views of voters on the site differ significantly from those on social networks.
On Android Authority49.5% of the almost 9,800 respondents say they turn off Bluetooth and NFC when they are not in use. This suggests that our website readers prefer to leave both of them all day. However, this does not seem to be the case for those who vote on other websites.

Over there TwitterJust over 57% of the ~ 7,700 respondents said they both turn them off when they are not needed. YouTube agreed with this result – 66% of voters in this poll agree they have turned off Bluetooth and NFC.
In particular, the comments suggest that the answers are slightly more nuanced than yes or no. Some users leave bluetooth on while turning off NFC. Others shut down Bluetooth while NFC stays on. Some admit they don’t use NFC at all. Ultimately, the answer largely depends on the individual use case of the individual user.

- James Mansell: I didn’t have a need for my Pixel 5, I can get up to 2 days of battery life even with Bluetooth on, so I don’t see any need to turn it off.
- B. Niess: I would like to use NFC for more things. Paying with it is the only reason I activated it.
- Wongwatt: Bluetooth mostly stays on to connect to my car. NFC is always off because I am not using it. For me, it’s easier to tap a card.
- Mitchell Leitmann: I leave Bluetooth on for the Covid Tracing app, if for no other reason.
- NexyTheTechie: Y.The little icons in the notification bar annoy me.
- Just an internet burger:: My current phone doesn’t have NFC, but since I have a smartwatch, bluetooth is on all the time.
- Samuel Tan: Well, I also turned on Bluetooth because of my smartwatch, only turned it off when I was sleeping. NFC is almost unusable in my country as we use QR codes for electronic wallets instead of NFC terminals.
- Marlon Johnson: No. I’ve found that these newer devices, if left on, have little or no impact on battery life.
