TL; DR
- Xiaomi has revealed the MIUI 12.5 Enhanced Edition update.
- It brings performance improvements and background app tweaks.
- It also offers over 300 system and system app fixes.
Xiaomi’s MIUI Android skin is one of the more feature-rich skins out there, and it has everything from scrolling screenshots and dual apps to super wallpapers and customizable themes. Unfortunately, one of the biggest issues we’ve found is that performance and stability can vary widely depending on the device.
Now Xiaomi has announced the MIUI 12.5 Enhanced Edition update in China and it is solely focused on making some changes under the hood.
For one, the company says that reading / writing performance should drop less than 5% after 36 months. This is mainly due to an improved defragmentation, it is said. Xiaomi adds that it has also identified 51 scenarios in need of optimization, which in these use cases resulted in an average energy saving of 8% and a reduction in CPU usage of 15%.
We are also getting a so-called “Atomic Memory” feature, which should enable users to keep more apps in the background without having to reload them when opening them again. Check out the company’s comparison between the Mi 10 Ultra and the Huawei P40 Pro.
Finally, the manufacturer says it fixed 160 system issues and 224 system app issues. Hopefully any major system problems you’ve experienced will be resolved by this update.
There’s no word about a global rollout for MIUI 12.5 Enhanced Edition, but Chinese users will get the update starting August 13th. Prominent devices that the update is planned for include the Mi Mix 4, Mi 11 series, Mi 10 series, Mi 10 Ultra, Redmi K40 series, Redmi K30 Pro, and Redmi K30S.
On the one hand, we are a little disappointed that this update does not add any user-oriented features to MIUI. On the other hand, we are pleased that Xiaomi is focusing on what is arguably MIUI’s greatest pain point in 2021.
