Microsoft has announced that it has acquired ZeniMax Media, the parent company of the large gaming group Bethesda.

The deal, which is subject to regulatory approval, is a $ 7.5 billion cash transaction, the Redmond giant noted in a press release announcing the acquisition. Bethesda’s leadership will continue to be part of the business.

Microsoft notes that the number of in-house studios will increase from 15 to 23 studios as a result.

“We’re going to add Bethesda’s legendary franchise to Xbox Game Pass for consoles and PC,” said Xbox CEO Phil Spencer in a post. Microsoft also noted that the intention was to bring Bethesda’s future games to subscription service the same day they launch on Xbox and PC.

There’s no word on a timeline for Bethesda titles slated for Game Pass, but it will likely happen after Microsoft gets the green light for the acquisition.

Bethesda’s major gaming franchises include Dishonored, Doom, The Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Wolfenstein, and Quake.
