From Thor to Loki
There are a couple of contextual tidbits to keep in mind Loki before it debuts. First is the fact that the series takes place after the events of Avengers: Endgame. This leads to the obvious question: Didn’t Loki die? in the Avengers: Infinity War, before the final? He sure did! But you will also remember when the Avengers went back to 2012 EndgameThey met Loki’s younger self. This Loki set off with the Tesseract that we now know is the space stone. He opened a portal and started, all within that particular timeline.
So the Loki from this timeline is the Loki we deal with on the show. As Bruce Banner explained in Endgame“Changing the past doesn’t change the future,” so in theory Loki should still be dead in the main timeline This Loki lives on and gets into trouble on a separate timeline in the Multiverse. This means that the Loki we saw to mourn his father and sacrifice himself to save his brother is still dead, and we’re back to the Loki we last saw in late 2012 The Avengers.
So where is our brave antihero? Loki?
The overview of Loki
It looks like Loki is getting into trouble on his own show as always. He breaks the rules of time and space and travels through the multiverse with the help of the stolen space stone. What we can put together with trailers and the information revealed by Disney is Loki doing another power game, running for political office as he leaps through familiar events and leaves his mark on history. It’s like Marvel’s take on Forrest Gump.
However, all of these temporal rule violations have consequences. We see Loki end up in the care of the Time Variance Authority or TVA. In the comics, the TVA is an agency that oversees and monitors the multiverse, trying to keep timing anomalies to a minimum. It’s very similar to Star Trek’s Temporal Investigation Department. It is unclear whether Loki will work with or against the TVA.
When and where can you watch? Loki?
Loki will be available exclusively at Disney Plus from May 2021.
It is certain that like Marvels, the series will launch weekly WandaVision and the one ahead The falcon and the winter soldier, along with other Disney Plus originals like The Mandolorian. So far, the Disney model has had new episodes posted on the streaming site every Friday, giving it the feel of appointment display like linear television programs, and there has been no indication of it Loki will deviate from this path.
Disney has not yet announced the exact premiere date Loki in May but we will surely let you know as soon as they do.
The (lo) key player
The official cast list doesn’t point to many familiar faces. Except for Loki, all of them are new, played once again by Tom Hiddleston.
As of the Loki The trailer (and its subtitles), Funny Owen Wilson, joins Hiddleston’s Loki as Mobius M. Mobius, who is the chief bureaucrat at the TVA in various Marvel comics. The buttoned-down Mobius or Moby rose over the years, mostly as the Fantastic Four villain.
Gugu Mbatha-Raw appears to be playing another of the senior players at the TVA. Mbatha-Raw isn’t new to weird science fiction, with credits like Doctor Who, Black mirror, The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, Jupiter Ascending, The Cloverfield Paradox, A fold in timeand the X-Men-esque Fast color under her belt.
Other confirmed actors to round out the cast include Sophia Di Martino, Wunmi Mosaku, and Richard E. Grant.
Behind the camera Kate Herron, whose credits include Netflix Sex education, directs all six episodes of Lokiwhile Michael Waldron is the headwriter and showrunner. Waldron is best known for writing and producing Rick and Mortyand he is recognized as the screenwriter for the upcoming MCU Doctor Strange in the multiverse of madness.
How Loki fits into the MCU
Loki is part of an ambitious Marvel launch plan Tons of new series on Disney Plus. WandaVision has been streamed since January 15th and The falcon and the winter soldier will fall shortly before on March 19th Loki. Meanwhile, What if…? Is planned for summer 2021 with Hawk Eye and Mrs. Marvel On the way to becoming a streamer at the end of 2021. Other upcoming MCU series in earlier stages of preproduction are: Arms wars, Secret invasion, Moon knight, She-hulk, heart of steeland a show started Black Pantheris Wakanda.
Loki is part of an ambitious Marvel plan to bring tons of new series out on Disney Plus. And after WandaVision, we couldn’t be more excited.
The MCU has traditionally offered many embeddings and crossovers between titles. Loki himself has appeared in all three Thor Movies as well The Avengers, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgameand he’s ready to appear in What if…? also.
Where could Loki go from here?
True to form, Loki seems to link pretty directly with other Marvel titles. On the one hand, Loki’s survival depends on the events of Avengers: Endgame, while the trailer of the series Thor himself nods: When Loki falls from a plane, we hear him say the words “Brother, Heimdall, you better be ready” before we see him torn from the sky by the Asgardian Bifröst. Whether he’s on a timeline where Heimdall is still alive to summon the Bifröst remains to be seen, as Heimdall died alongside Loki in the main timeline Infinity war.
With Thor now able to summon the Rainbow Bridge with his nifty new ax Stormbreaker, this could also be Loki’s rendering in the main timeline where he is supposed to appear Thor: love and thunder, probably in November.
Showrunner Michael Waldron’s involvement in Doctor Strange in the multiverse of madness could also suggest the trickster is finding its way into this narrative, already tied into the upcoming Disney Plus Marvel roster. At San Diego Comic-Con, Kevin Feige, President and Chief Creative Officer of Marvel Studios, announced that Wanda Maximoff will be performing at San Diego Comic-Con Doctor Strange in the multiverse of madnessand that the events of WandaVision would lead her there – we’ve already seen Wanda break through on various schedules, including borrowing a character from the non-MCU X-Men Universe.
Whether Loki will get into one of these films remains to be seen. But the fact that he plays in the same multiverse sandbox as Wanda and Doctor Strange ties him to the ever-growing MCU, even as he drifts into his own timeline – or timelines.
Loki Rumors and Easter eggs
As with any Marvel project, let alone a set in the Multiverse. Loki was greeted with much speculation.
One guess that has been around for months is that Loki will travel through Earth’s past. There he will change historical events. To be more precise, he could actually turn out to be the infamous “DB Cooper”. In 1971, DB Cooper hijacked a Boeing 727 and earned $ 200,000 in ransom (that’s over $ 1 million today). Then the mysterious kidnapper jumped out in mid-flight. After a long manhunt, the authorities never found a body or a parachute. DB Cooper’s true identity has remained one of the great secrets of the 20th century. But the Loki trailer sees Loki in the DB Cooper cosplay, which was torn from the sky by the Bifröst. That could finally provide the explanation we have been looking for over these 50 years.
Another possible cameo connects Loki more firmly to the MCU. When the first trailer was released during Disney’s announcement flash At his “Investor Day” in December, some eagle-eyed watchers quickly noticed what Natasha Romanoff or Black Widow looks like and her signature red hair in an instant, and you’re about to miss it.
Like Loki, Natascha died trying to stop Thanos Avengers: Endgamebut Black Widow also has her own film is expected to be released later this year in May Loki. We can’t be sure if the parallel release dates or the red hair suggest any deeper connection. Or whether we will see more of Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow in the Multiverse. However, the trail of the breadcrumbs is certainly inviting.
Another cameo rumor is coming even closer to home, with unconfirmed reports that Jamie Alexander might repeat her role from the first two Thor Films as Lady Siff. While Lady Siff was noticeably absent THOR: Ragnorok, Deadline reportedNot only would she be back shortly after Disney Investor Day Thor: love and thunder, but also in Loki. Marvel predictably had no comment, so we’ll have to wait and see.
That’s all we know – and a few things we don’t know! – About Lokiand is coming to Disney Plus in May. We will provide updates as soon as we receive them!
