At its annual Worldwide developer conference Apple executives released the latest version of on Monday MacOS, called Big Sur. The newly designed operating system contains important updates for the Safari web browser and updated maps and Messages Apps.

MacOS Big Sur is now available as a developer beta and will be available as a public beta in July. It will be generally available to all users as a free software update in the fall. Note that you must first make sure that your Mac is compatible with the new operating system.

Just a reminder: these instructions are for downloading an early MacOS preview for developers. That means you need to sign up for an Apple developer account that costs $ 99 a year.

And even after installing the developer beta, you can expect it to be buggy – some apps won’t work, random restarts and crashes will likely occur, and your battery life will likely be affected. If you still want to try it, you shouldn’t install the developer beta on your main Mac. Instead, use a replacement compatible device if you have one. Otherwise, wait until at least the first public beta is available. Actually, you should wait even longer – the closer to the official autumn release date, the more stable the operating system and the less likely your computer will be damaged.
