LG’s bendable OLED gaming TV curves on demand
- LG Display presented a bendable OLED gaming TV concept ahead of CES 2021.
- The 48-inch screen is curved for game immersion and flat for movies.
- It is not certain that this will be a production model.
Curved televisions are great for games and other content that benefits from impressive viewing. However, they can be painful just trying to catch up on your latest shows. However, you may not have to compromise in the future. LG Display has unveiled a prototype bendable OLED gaming TV that curves as needed.
LG’s 48-inch OLED can be bent to a 1,000R radius if you want an extra dash of immersion for gaming, but flattens out for TV shows and other material where a curve could be distracting. Like other modern OLED screens, this panel is flicker-free, offers virtually instant response times and supports variable refresh rates up to 120 Hz.

You wouldn’t even need speakers. The pliable OLED TV uses LG’s Cinematic Sound to produce audio by vibrating the display itself. Advances in technology have reduced the display exciter behind the technology to just 0.02 inches thick – you may not even notice it’s there.
The company will host a virtual showcase for the set at CES 2021.
Whether or not you are seeing a production version is not clear. LG Display clearly designed the pliable OLED with practical considerations in mind, but it’s not a full-fledged TV product that you can currently buy. It may take LG or one of their panel customers to turn it into a shipping device that you can put in your living room. Instead, think of this as a look at where TVs might go – your future device could change shape based on what you’re watching or playing.
