Lenovo’s foldable PC is back, Pixel 5 later today, plus more tech news!

1. The foldable PC is back
A long, long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, in May 2019, the Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Fold was the first foldable PC.
- Lenovo said at the time it had worked on the concept for three years.
- Later screenings at CES 2020 and practical considerations indicated that some time later in 2020 it would be more than just a concept.
That time is now!
Lenovo’s foldable PC, the Thinkpad X1 Fold, is available for pre-order starting at $ 2,499. To the best of my knowledge, however, it will not be delivered until mid-November.
- Not much has changed in the nearly five years that Lenovo has been working on it. It is a 13.3-inch OLED display from LG with 2K resolution and an aspect ratio of 4: 3.
- It runs on an Intel Core i5-L16G7 processor, 8 GB of RAM, up to 1 TB of PCIe M.2 SSD storage, optional 5 GB, and Lenovo says the battery life should be 8.5 hours or more.
- This Intel chip, which we also saw in the Intel model of the Galaxy Book S, is called a hybrid processor. It’s not very powerful, but the foldable PC here looks like little extra cooling, so it’s all about compromise.
- There’s a Bluetooth mini fold keyboard that Lenovo designed for the device, and the X1 Fold can wirelessly charge the keyboard while it’s hidden inside.
- There are also more parts like a pen (Lenovo Mod Pen) and an easel stand.
- Prices range from $ 2,499 for a no keyboard, no pen, and 256GB of storage to $ 3,099 for a pen, keyboard, and 1TB of storage.
- That’s insanely expensive considering how the Fold 2 stacks up against it at $ 2,000. But it’s a PC, i.e. Windows, PC programs and apps, a normal keyboard …
- In any case, you all know the mantra: don’t buy any first generation products, at least not until the detailed reviews are posted.
