Lenovo launches Legion 5i, 7i series gaming laptops
- Lenovo is launching four new Legion gaming laptop models.
- The headliner model contains Intel’s new Core i9 CPU with the Nvidia RTX 3080 and a 16-inch 165 Hz display.
A few weeks after the debut of its new Legion gaming phone, Lenovo is upgrading its Legion gaming laptop line with updated Intel and Nvidia hardware. All four models are now equipped with 11th generation Intel Core H CPUs with graphics cards from the RTX 30 series from Nvidia.
Lenovo sticks to simple design features for all models, but there is a lot of RGB. Most of the usual number of I / Os are located at the rear of the machines. Backlit keyboards and large cooling slats are also provided. The main differences are in screen sizes and technology.
Lenovo Legion 5i series
The base model, the Legion 5i, has a 15.6-inch display with an IPS panel of 2,560 x 1,440 165 Hz. A 1080p 165Hz, 120Hz and standard 60Hz panel are also offered. The graphics options are complemented by the Nvidia RTX 3070 GPU, while this can be connected to an Intel Core i7-11800H, up to 32 GB of 3200 MHz RAM and 2 TB of NVMe storage.
If size is your thing, Lenovo also brings a 17-inch version of this model that has similar internals, although it only offers two 1080p display options, one of which has a 144 Hz refresh rate.

The third new model in the range, the Legion 5i Pro, brings the same Intel CPUs, Nvidia GPUs and RAM to the table, but improves the display technology on offer. A 16-inch screen with a resolution of 2,560 x 1,600 and a refresh rate of 165 Hz is the outstanding feature. The screen also offers a maximum brightness of 500 nits and Dolby Vision support. Lenovo claims that the 16:10 aspect ratio should allow gamers to see more of their surroundings in-game. This could give them the edge in racing titles or battle royale shooters.
Lenovo Legion 7i
Finally, Lenovo also brings a model with all the silicone bells and whistles. The Lenovo Legion 7i with the longest range has a similar 16-inch display as the Legion 5i Pro. It also includes more powerful processing options. The top configuration offers the Intel Core i9-11980HK in addition to the Nvidia RTX 3080 GPU with 16 GB GDDR6 RAM. This combination should run most esports titles at 2560 x 1600 @ 165 Hz without any problems. Lenovo’s Powerfront thermal management system keeps this power-hungry cocktail cool. The laptop also has a Corsair keyboard, Wi-Fi 6 support, and a 300W power adapter.
There’s no word yet on the pricing or release dates of the new Lenovo Legion models, but the highest-range Legion 7i configuration is expected to cost more than pennies.
